Undergraduate Research Assistants

We love working with smart, creative, and hard-working students! If you are interested in applying to be a research assistant, please complete this form. Positions are filled on a rolling basis. If we do not an open position right now, we will keep your application on file and will contact you for an interview when one becomes available. Depending on the level of commitment and the time of year, this position could be as part of an Individual Project course (e.g., PSY405/406), a work-study position, or a short-term volunteer role until a course or a paid position becomes available.

Graduate students

If you are interested in pursuing your Ph.D. with Dr. Barense, please see the Department of Psychology website for full details (including information about our fee waiver program). Applications for the next year’s September cohort are typically due in early December, and we anticipate recruiting a student for a September 2026 start.

To ensure a fair and consistent evaluation process for all applicants, Dr. Barense meets with shortlisted candidates only after the full set of applications becomes available to faculty, usually in early January. Because of the high volume of inquiries, she may not be able to respond to individual emails sent outside of the formal application process. Please don’t feel that you need to email Dr. Barense in advance – the best way to register your interest and ensure full consideration is to submit a complete application through the official portal. We look forward to reading it!
